These heroes may not be on drugs, but their comics are laced with psychedelic art, storylines and other fantasy-inspired gadgets and villains.
Doctor Strange- Known as the master of the mystic arts. He has explored other dimensions, cast spells and has the ability to astrally project himself (out of body experience to the max). Basically, he is the Timothy Leary of Marvel comics. Suggested reading: Dr. Strange Oath TPB
Nick Fury- He is the Director of SHIELD, an underground espionage team of gadget heads who started in the psychedelic sixties. The early issues of Strange tales and SHIELD's first series are strewn with the most psychedelic art and far out adventures ever seen in comics. Jim Steranko is the master of the splash page and his colors are right out of a Pink Floyd lightshow.

Killraven- He is living in the apocalyptic future-earth which has just lost a battle to aliens (think Road Warrior meets War of the Worlds) His band of survivors must battle warrior savages to stay alive and keep the human race from extinction. There are one-eyed men, snake people and other wierdness created by the Marvel mastermind Roy Thomas and a slew of artists.
Suggested reading: Killraven Warrior of the Worlds GN
Silver Surfer- He is a galatic herald tortured by his inability to escape his plight (he is a herald for a devourer of worlds). He is soulful and poetic while surfing dimensions and realms (leading to psychedelic worlds of adventure and stranger creatures of the universe) on his long board. Oh, and he has the power of the universe incarnate. Nuff said.

Psychedelic Homefront
Here is a list of some USA psych i've enjoyed and allowed to seep into my brain.
I have most of these on LP and when you add in the snaps, crackles and pops it only adds to the psychness of the music. Let your freak flag fly!
Country joe and the Fish-Electric Music anyone?
Doors (especially Strange Days)
Jefferson Airplane (White Rabbit is the ultimate trip song)
Led Zeppelin ( iknow mainstream, but listen to song remains the same and the longer jams like Dazed and confused)
Moby Grape (SF mellow psych to smoke to)
Power of Zeus (The Gospel of psych?) Heavier psych
Hunger-For your Heavier frame of mindmelt
New Dawn- cool progish sound with some fuzz

Early Electric Company
These bands have some flare for electronica albeit was the 60's before any significant electronic instruments were mastered. These pioneers were "spaced out". For an odyssey of the mind have a listen to...
Fifty Foot Hose/ Cauldron (pulls out all the stops using all the bells and whistles of the time-literally)
Silver Apples/ Contact (very cool use of electronic sounds and all songs lyrics are from a poet friend of the band-can't get anymore sixties than that)
United States of America/ST- Well, how about no guitar, that's pretty innovative. Primitive synthesizers and various audio processors make up this classic piece of electronic/psych.

Psychedelia Internationalia
Ciao, dig it,
The psychedelic scene was so vast and now we are getting these international re-issues from the era of swirling sounds, fuzz, colors in music, and the like. Here are a few of those bands, not cutting their guitar teeth in the US of wah-wah. They are worth checking out even if some music is sung in their native language and you can't understand the words; hey what did you expect!
Besides fuzz is universal~
November/ En ny tid ar har and 2:a (killer heavier psych) Sweden
Gleemen/ ST (italy) Pre-Garybaldi (but you knew that already) They make Hendrix proud.
Modulo 1000 (brazil) Crazy psych from the very early 70's
Group 1850/ Paradise now (netherlands) very cool progish sound
